The Rhône is a large region split into two distinct identities. The northern Rhône impresses with its smoky Syrahs and silky Viognier or Marsanne/Roussanne-based whites. The southern Rhône is where the Grenache grape reigns supreme, often blended with Syrah and Mourvèdre. It's crazy to think that Hermitage and Châteauneuf-du-Pape are considered to be from the same "region" even though they're quite different.
